Aisha • Level One Help Desk Analyst • Wyomissing
When my youngest of three sons was born with Autism back in 2011, I became severely depressed and had to leave my job as a receptionist in a guidance office of the Reading School District. I spent the next four years at home looking after my son and battling my depression. “Why me?” I thought to myself. “Why was my son born with Autism?” Thinking like this only made my mood worse. After four years at home, it was time for me to start working again. In August of 2016, I found work at InspiriTec as a Help Desk Analyst for the Department of Labor & Industry, answering phone calls and helping people on the other line with technical issues on the L&I website. Many of the people who call are frustrated, impatient, or otherwise not very pleasant. But after spending so much time away from a work environment and daily interaction with others, I looked forward to speaking with callers, whether they were friendly or not. I used my customer service skills every single day to deescalate situations, make people more comfortable, and ultimately resolve their problems. Finding work at InspiriTec helped tremendously with my depression. I just loved waking up, coming to work and helping people every day, especially in an office like this. Everyone is so understanding of each other’s disabilities and is always ready to lend a hand. It honestly warms my heart to know that places like InspiriTec exist, because it gives me hope for my son. InspiriTec has made me realize that my son will one day be a fully-functioning adult, and that there are places that will allow him to work for a purpose and be part of society.
