Katie

Before I began working at InspiriTec, I was a group therapist for kids with anger issues, PTSD and depression. I then shifted my focus on school, in pursuit of a degree in psychology. I had been taking online classes, until I got a text from a case worker from AHEDD, saying she submitted my resume to a company called InspiriTec. At the time, I wasn’t really focused on getting a job, but the next day, I got a call from InspiriTec asking me to come in for an interview for the position of a Customer Service Representative (CSR) at a call center.

With courses becoming more and more expensive, I decided to go for it, even though I had a ridiculous fear of speaking on the phone. I went into the interview, just thinking that it was going to be a good experience for me, and that I probably wasn’t going to get the job. Evidently, I (surprisingly) got the position and passed a week’s worth of training. Working at InspiriTec with my fear of phones, I thought I wasn’t going to last long. Fortunately for me, I was working with a lot of supportive and understanding people. And I don’t mean in a “we all have a disability” type of way, but rather we were all on the same page when it came to learning the information we needed to know. It was a new project, and sometimes it became overwhelming, but supervisors and leads who were teaching us were incredibly accommodating – like when there’d be an employee who needed to be retaught something, and we’d all have to go through an extra day for training.

InspiriTec has done something for me that no other company I had ever worked for had done: they allowed me to grow. I grew as a person and also as an employee. I started as a CSR, but was proudly promoted to a Team Lead. I could not have done that without the surge of confidence InspiriTec undoubtedly gave me while working here. Most people working at InspiriTec share a common trait: being disabled. When you have a disability, by default you are pitied and underestimated. However, InspiriTec’s inclusivity surprised me.

InspiriTec has helped me realize that my disability does not define me. I feel like I can make an impact on the world, and whether you have a disability or not, that is what all of us seek. That is the pursuit of happiness, and thanks to InspiriTec, I am one hop closer to that. For those who question themselves or hesitate seeking a job because of a disability, I implore you – don’t. I know, for a fact, that there are companies out there that will accommodate your needs while also making you feel like anyone else in this world: bitter, happy, angry, confused, proud…

Your average person.
