Stephen • Field Support / DAC Analyst, Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), DSO Support Office (DSO) Contact Center Support • Ft. Knox
I have lived with severe vision impairment since two years old. After graduating from Western Kentucky University with a Sociology major, I found out about InspiriTec – a Social Enterprise that hires people with disabilities – from my counselor from Kentucky School of the Blind. My counselor at Kentucky School of the Blind referred me to InspiriTec, and I was hired as a Customer Service Representative on the DMDC Support Office (DSO) project on April 20, 2015. Due to my outstanding performance, I was promoted to Tier 2 Field Support later that year. After the promotion, I was able to get my own apartment and live independently. I was promoted again on March 1, 2023 to DAC Analyst. Working on the DSO project is very rewarding, because it allows me to access and correct a personnel record for members of the military community. I have a long family history of military service: my brother and great-grandfather are Veterans of the Marines, and my father and grandfather are Veterans of the Army. InspiriTec’s Case Management team supports my success through several accommodations. At work, I use ZoomText and hardcopy documents in large print. I usually take the bus 15 miles each way to/from the office. However, on the days I have alternate schedules or appointments, our CM team arranges special pickup and drop-off times. Outside of work, I am Head Male Counselor of the Lions Club Youth Camp, which I attended as a child. I allocate half my vacation time to make this camp possible for children with vision/hearing impairments! Through outdoor activities, campers get a sense of independence and achievement, through learning how to navigate their environment. I hope I can inspire children with similar challenges, through my work at Lions Club Youth Camp and at InspiriTec!
